My work is about creation and destruction, the human struggle for survival and the inevitable end- Death.
In my work, I am a mad scientist.
In my work, I am playing God.
I use clay. I have been using clay my entire life. It allows me to express my thoughts without technical limitations- It is intuitive- It is second nature to me.
When I was a little girl, I used to say I’d be a scientist when I grew up. In some ways, working in clay uses various scientific methods. It is systematic work with trial and errors, experiments with controls to avoid confounding variables. Clay is based on physics and chemistry and in my work I embrace biology.
There are brief, quiet times where my subconscious mingles with and titillates my conscience mind. Enthralled by these moments, various images spring in and out of my brain. I gather some of these images and then assemble them to create clay figures.
I’m playing with the juxtaposition of biblical creation of man versus the scientific creation. I exploit human mutation and deformities furthermore; I hybridize nature’s specimens, commenting on the contemporary issues of our genetic future.
